Certify Your Home Recovery Residence with Confidence in Ohio
In Ohio, certification for recovery residences is not mandatory for Levels 1-3. However, Level 4 residences, which offer the highest intensity of services and supports, are licensed by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) as Residential Facilities.
Starting January 1, 2025, all recovery homes in Ohio will need to be appropriately certified to be listed on the OhioMHAS registry of recovery housing residences. Only homes on this registry will be eligible to receive designated funding, referrals, or to advertise as recovery housing, sober living, or other drug and alcohol-free housing for individuals with substance use disorders.

The Ohio Recovery Housing (ORH), the state’s affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR), offers certification that ensures your residence meets nationally recognized quality standards. By obtaining ORH certification, you demonstrate a commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for residents, enhance credibility with referral agencies, and gain access to funding opportunities.
